Microsoft Power BI offers data preparation, data discovery, interactive dashboards and augmented analytics via a single product. It is available as a SaaS option running in the Azure cloud or, new in 2017, as the on-premises option Power BI Report Server. Power BI Report Server allows users to share reports (but not dashboards) and lacks some of the machine-learning capabilities found in Power BI SaaS. Microsoft Quick Insights (a feature within Power BI) is a basic form of augmented data discovery, initially available in the cloud service. The conversational chatbots with Microsoft Cortana also are differentiators, and Microsoft Surface Hub is touch-enabled and supports the display of Power BI content on wall-size displays in executive board rooms. The ability to provide a closed-loop process from insight to action is supported by the integration of Power BI with Microsoft Flow and within its business application, Microsoft Dynamics 365. Virtual reality and Power BI integration with Holo Lens are currently works in progress.

Artificial Intelligence Products (AI)

Companies are spending millions on analytics software but the tools are still not being broadly adopted.  Bots are difficult to configure on analytics applications or databases. Getting answers quickly isn’t easy.  No matter how much effort is spent building apps, executives don’t want to pull information, they want it pushed to them.  People sometimes don’t know how to use a dataviz app.  AI can help users to conveniently interact with BI tools via text and chat.  AI extracts insights and establishes an analytical narrative users can interact with via Slack, Skype, iMessage and Salesforce Chat.  Quickly cull massive amounts of information across multiple analytics apps and render insights when asked.  No need to wait for a query or a report request.  Ask and answer, instantly.  Bots don’t sleep.  Always on.  The ultimate UX.

CrunchBot is a product designed by Crunch Data to help customers get more value from their data visualization software investments. Crunchbot, also known as AIDA (Artificially Intelligent Data Analyst), quickly culls massive amounts of information across multiple business analytics systems to render natural language insights on command. It interprets information into questions business users may use to ask and get answers to critical business questions via a chat experience.  AIDA leverages best of breed AI platforms combined with proprietary natural language generation technology and machine learning to accelerate how bots are implemented for use with business intelligence and data visualization software.

Amazon RedShift

Amazon Redshift was introduced in November 2012. Redshift is a massively parallel processing (MPP) columnar database for data warehousing workloads. Clients can choose to use hard disks or SSDs for storage, based on their capacity and performance requirements.

Redshift uses SQL as an interface and allows for the creation of user-defined functions. Queries submitted to Redshift are compiled down to C++ code, and reused from a query cache if they are present. Clients can run 500 concurrent user connections against a single Redshift cluster. Many common analytics and BI tools can be used with Redshift.Redshift maintains two copies of data in storage, and continually copies data asynchronously to Amazon S3. The replica provides availability if one copy of the data is not available.

AWS has added Redshift Spectrum to the offering as a feature. With Spectrum, consumers can run queries directly on datasets in Amazon S3 on its own, or run queries that join together data in S3 with data already in Redshift data warehouse. Spectrum is a serverless offering, for which clients pay based on the number of bytes scanned for a query. Spectrum also allows users to scale compute and storage resources independently through the use of S3.

Microsoft Azure offers Hyper-V-virtualized multitenant compute (Virtual Machines), with multitenant storage, along with many additional IaaS and PaaS capabilities, including object storage (Blob Storage), a CDN, a Docker-based container service (Azure Container Service), a batch computing service (Azure Batch) and event-driven "serverless computing" (Azure Functions). The Azure Marketplace offers third-party software and services. Enterprise-grade support is extra. It has a multi-fault-domain SLA. Colocation needs are met via partner exchanges (Azure ExpressRoute). Microsoft Azure is second in market share, not only in IaaS, but also in integrated IaaS+PaaS. It has sustained a very high growth rate over multiple years. Microsoft is now launching innovative Azure capabilities of its own, rather than primarily copying competitor capabilities. Microsoft is frequently chosen as a strategic cloud provider by customers that are committed to Microsoft technologies or that like Microsoft's overall cloud strategy, which spans IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and on-premises solutions.
